The first ever Formula 1 US Grand Prix was held here as well. 2. RaceFanX posted: 03.18.2017 - 4:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Sebring is a notoriously rough track. I've heard it said that the 24 Hours of Le Mans is an easier race than the 12 Hours of Sebring because despite being twice as long Sebring is just that hard on driver and equipment. The 12 Hours of Sebring is known as both one of the greatest races in sportscar racing and one with a party-like atmosphere. In 1974 the race was cancelled due to the energy crisis but thousands of people still showed up just to party at the track! 3. Starting in 2019 the iconic sports car race will double down as the WEC returns to the track and it holds two separate 12-hour races. The traditional Saturday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. race will be for the United SportsCar teams with a new midnight-to-noon Sunday race for the WEC teams. Interesting to see them reviving a midnight start for a sports car race, reminds me of the former Paul Revere 250 at Daytona. Famously the 12 Hours of Reims in France used a midnight-to-noon format (with a Le Mans start no less!) back in the 1960s. 4. "We must do every single thing possible, no matter what the cost or inconvenience, to stop the spread of this dangerous virus!!!!" . . . 2. "But not THAT!!!!" 7. RaceFanX posted: 03.12.2020 - 11:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) No, I would file it more under simple logistics. Most WEC teams are based in Europe and their cars, equipment, and personnel were scheduled to be flown into the United States but now cannot be because of the restrictions. Most drivers, crew members, etc, had yet to fly in because the race wasn't scheduled until next week. The race would be impossible to stage under these circumstances. It's one of the same, non-emotional reasons NASCAR postponed its New Hampshire race after the 9/11 attacks; all American flights were grounded at the time so there was no way for anyone to get to the race in a timely fashion. 8. So many teams, drivers & other people from Europe needed to make the trip to the United States in order to compete, and that just isn't possible right now. 9. RaceFanX posted: 03.12.2020 - 12:35 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The 12 Hours was postponed for the same reason as the 1000 miles, the travel ban making it hard for international drivers and crews to come to the track. It'll be interesting to hold the 12 Hours in November, Sebring will now be held after the Petit Le Mans as the season finale. 11.
