Site of the historic win by Wendell Scott. Still to date the only win by
an African American. That win came during 1964. The track was a 1/2 Mile
Dirt Oval located in Jacksonville, Florida. The track was closed in
1973. The track was a popular hangout for the legendary band Lynyrd
Skynyrd.

Wendell Scott's win happened actually in 1963, but that race was
scheduled in the 1964 season.

My friend's Dad, Dink Widenhouse won the first race at this. Not a
NASCAR race but still, the first race.

wiki says: Opened in 1947, the track was located at the intersection of
Lenox Avenue and Plymouth Street in southwest Jacksonville. the track
was closed in 1973; a housing development now stands at the site

This one is easy to find. I used the 1968 Jacssonville map from the USGS
Store (free download).

Loos like the S/F line was a parking spot or two away from the street
that leads to the pool. Track was oriented N/S and seemed to be have
shorter straights and longer turns than most other .5 milers of the day.

The bottom loop of the apartment complex seems to follow Turns 1 and 2.
Turn 3 was right under the two diagonal buildings in the NE of the complex.

I can't see any trace of the track at all from Google Maps. Maybe
something on the ground might still be hidden away in a corner.

The low income housing complex that sits there now was delayed being
built do to soil contamination from the years of racing there. There is
no trace of the track because all of the soil at the site was removed
and replaced with dirt from a local pit.

Outline of the track remained somewhat visible on aerial views as late
as 1999
