It operates a 1/2-mile dirt oval, a 3/8-mile asphalt oval and a 1/8-mile dirt oval for karts. It currently hosts races from the World of Outlaws series (both sprints and late models) and the UMP late model series. 2. The paved track was 1/2 mile. It was paved before the 1989 season, then converted back to dirt in 1999. The 3/8 mile track was always dirt and has no events covered here. 4. This would be the last time A major NASCAR series would run on dirt until Eldora in 2013 with the Truck series. 5. @statscrash posted: 02.20.2020 - 3:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I had no idea Volusia was ever paved. 6. Much of the film was shot in the Daytona area so they used a local short track. The track was paid more than $300,000 for letting the film crew use it, with county residents scoring $1.5 million in total from everything else the film crew bought, rented, or hired during the shoot. The scene was inspired by a real testing session that took place a few years earlier when crew chief Harry Hyde made Tim Richmond do the same thing, the movie was loosely based on the pair's partnership. Cup racer Hut Stricklin was the primary stunt driver for the scene although they did let star Tom Cruise do some of his own driving too. One take saw Cruise steer right by mistake and spin out his Lumina, wrecking a $100,000 film camera attached to the outside of the stock car although the car itself wasn't hurt. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
