The track hosted two "Nascar" events in 1948. In 1948, the track was surrounded by chicken wire fence, and a crash involving Red Byron, sent the car through the fence and into the spectators resulting in one fatality. 2. Not only did Bob win the feature in Columbus, but his sibling, Fonty Flock, was completing the same task at the same moment at the Birmingham Fairgrounds in Alabama, out-dueling Atlanta's Billy Carden for the win. At the same time, at the fairgrounds in Greensboro, North Carolina, their kid brother Tim Flock took the win in the feature at that track, barely beating newcomer Cotton Owens of South Carolina. Three brothers, three major wins in three different states, all on the same day. 4. All I see is a horse jumping pen that could be mistaken for a track. (A 1/10 mile track) (5 minutes later) BAM! Got it. You can see it on the free download map from the USGS. Ellerslie Georgia 1955 map. The track is right there...corner of Blackmond and an unnamed dirt road. East side of Blackmond and due east from teh southern tip of Pemberton Lake. That lake is labelled on teh map and is NW of the corner of Blackmond and Hancock. Now that we know where it is, you can see the vague outline in the underbrush. Track is oriented East-west. That said...as a courtesy to all, if you are not positive on the location of a track please say so. Some of us don't want to go on a wild goose chase. (MOD, feel free to edit, it frustrates me for people to state assumptions as facts) 5.
