Racing took place in the early 1980s on a track constructed in one of the casino's parking lots. Though well set up for a temporary circuit its counter-clockwise direction of racing was unpopular with F1 drivers and the race lasted just two years as an international Grand Prix as such (but helping the USA to become the first country ever to host three F1 races in a single year in the process). The course was remodeled into a 'distorted oval' pattern when the race continued for another two years as a CART IndyCar event. 2. chris o posted: 07.25.2012 - 8:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) this track is no longer used. 3. It was a smooth surfaced track with sand runoff and the perfect width, thin enough to be tricky, wide enough for passing. But it was counterclockwise, putting strain on drivers' necks, and it was often very hot. 4. In the 1990s it was torn up and redeveloped when Caesars Palace's famous The Forum Shops mall was built built on the site. 6. To help with the process of get it smoothed out for the Formula 1 races the organizers famously hired Las Vegas taxi drivers to run lap after lap around the circuit, the unorthodox tactic gave this course its famously smooth as glass surface in time for the races here. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
