The track is long abandoned now but still in existance, before it closed the track owner stole a bunch of money and split. For a while after the closure locals used to hold illegal races at the track supposedly until a bad accident, possibly fatal possibly not, took place at which point piles of dirt placed on the track to make the surface undriveable. Many fans remember the track's signature plastic seats but many of them eventually went up in flames in a grandstand fire. 2. Judging by the video I saw of this place, it's still there, but it's in really bad condition. 3. br7484 posted: 02.19.2017 - 4:05 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Century 21 Speedway was located at what is now the northwest corner of I-70 and E-470. It was originally conceived as a multipurpose facility with a 3/8 mile oval, a drag strip and either a 1 ¼ or 1 ½ mile superspeedway with four corners similar to Indianapolis or Ontario. The big oval never got done, but from aerial photographs you can see the layout of the big oval as grading work had been completed before the shutdown. This track was a bit before my time, but I've heard when the dragstrip was built they ran it slightly downhill to compensate for the altitude so a car would run the same E.T.s at the mile high altitude as it would at sea level. I don't know if this was true or how well it worked. Also the figure 8 course was very tight, the oval was fairly high banked and the result was tough on equipment. Old timers talk about breaking ¾ ton truck spindles on the figure 8 cars. After closing the track sat in deteriorating and dilapidated condition for about 40 years, until about two years ago redevelopment work began on the site. The track is completely gone now, a one million square foot amazon.com distribution center is currently being built on the site. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
