This one-mile dirt oval opened in 1901 as a horse racing track with auto
racing beginning in the 1914 and becoming a staple from 1935 until 1985.
The car races got popular enough a half-mile track was built to
accompany the mile in 1936. The car racing on the mile layout ended
after 1989 and the big track was abandoned in 1998, and appears to have
been removed, although the half-mile dirt track is still in operation.

The main form of racing at the half mile track in recent years seem to
be sprint cars.
