Before its closure in 2005, the track hosted races in several series including the Indy Racing League and NASCAR's Busch (now Nationwide) Series and Craftsman Truck Series. In addition to its 1 mile (1.6 km), D-shaped oval, the infield forms part of a 1.3-mile (2.1 km) road course and a 1/4-mile (0.4 km) short oval. Its grandstand capacity is 10,000. On September 30, 2005, it was announced that the track had been bought by the International Speedway Corporation. ISC shut the facility down in November of that year and petitioned NASCAR to move the track's Busch Series date to Martinsville Speedway for 2006. PPIR reopened September 2008 with a focus on participant motorsports events. A wide variety of amateur racing groups use PPIR for racing, testing and training. Due to NASCAR's ban on testing at tracks with NASCAR races, many NASCAR teams run test sessions at PPIR. Plans call for the construction of additional road courses, trackside lots and motorsports business related shops. 2. travis posted: 10.15.2010 - 7:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) need some old schoo race. maybe like go kart, midget, mod or some just have fun races. stop get greedy 3. Colorado seemed like a new good market to expand upon for NASCAR. I guess travel was too much to Colorado Springs? 7. boreddude101010 posted: 11.15.2020 - 7:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) This track still hosts a lot of events, yet it seems like USAC & the SRL Southwest Tour aren't going to return anytime soon. I guess there's a clause preventing NASCAR and probably IndyCar? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
