It is one of only three paved ovals in the state of Arizona. The track was built in 1968, originally as a clay oval. In 1982, International Speedway Corporation bought the facility and paved the racing surface in 1993. In 2002, ISC sold the track to then-general manager David Derry and it was sold again in 2005 to its current owners, Dan and Joyce Ruth. In 2009 the track was sold to Mark Ebert who has made new changes to the track. It is now an ASA Racing track. In 1995, TRP hosted the second-ever NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, the Racing Champions 200. This race returned in 1996 and 1997 as the NAPA 200. TRP was also the home of the TV program Winter Heat Series, which ran during NASCAR's offseason from 1994-95 to 1998-99. This program was the launching pad for the careers of drivers such as Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Matt Crafton and others. 2. In 2017, Tucson Speedway was the opening race for the NAPA 500 CHALLENGE to kick off the K&N Pro Series West. Current divisions are the Super Late Models, Late Models, Pro Stocks, Modifieds, Hornets, Pro Trucks and Hobby Stocks. Each January/February, the CHILLY WILLY 150 is held as one of the first NASCAR sanctioned Home Track races, with 35 Super Late Models in the feature race. Tucson Speedway is regarded as a "driver's track" with skill determining the finish as the cars race 3-4 wide. The track season opens in March and ends in October, with 2 specialty races in November. 6. The main change, though, is that the doubleheader at Tucson Speedway has been dropped from the schedule. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
