Early 2011 saw great political unrest in the Middle East as a whole and the toppling of governments in Tunisia and Egypt in the weeks earlier fueled the protests in Bahrain. 2. Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince of Bahrain, pushed for the construction of this US $150 million track and ground was broken in 2002. The track was built with a design by Hermann Tilke. The circuit opened in 2004, just in time for its first F1 race. It has multiple layouts including the Grand Prix course, a longer endurance course for the WEC Six Hours of Bahrain, a flat oval, and a couple of shorter road course layouts. 3. Like at Abu Dhabi though this track does not use champagne during victory and podium celebrations, instead using a local rosewater-based beverage called Waard. The pavement at the Bahrain International Circuit is made of greywacke aggregate that they had specifically shipped in from the UK. The surface is known for allowing a lot of grip. 5. Regarding its second race they are looking about holding that race on the outer circuit which is 2.277 miles. It is wicked fast and only has 11 corners and 3 very long straightaways. If held the race would be 89 to 90 laps. 11. Canadianfan posted: 08.28.2020 - 11:56 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Itis confirmed the second Bahrain race will be held on the outer circuit. The race will be 87 laps and lap times are expected to be under 55 seconds. It will break the 46-year-old record from the 1974 French Grand Prix held at Dijon-Prenois. A 0:58.79 set by Niki Lauda. 12. Corey posted: 08.28.2020 - 12:01 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Bahrain will be hosting two races for the 2020 Formula 1 season. The first race, the Bahrain Grand Prix, will be the traditional yearly race run on the Grand Prix circuit. The second event, the Sakhir Grand Prix, will be run on the outer circuit. This 3.543 km circuit could see sub-60 minute lap times with average speeds over 240 kph. The race will be run over 87 laps. 13. 52 posted: 08.28.2020 - 12:52 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @12 If I were Perelli I would be sweating bad watching that second Bahrain race. 14. Canadianfan posted: 08.28.2020 - 2:16 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @13 More than just Pirelli. This is going to be the second last race of the season which means engine mileage is going to be pretty critical by this point. Every team will be on their final engine or already past their allotment for the year. There might be quite a few grid penalties before and after this race. I think this might end up being a slipstreaming affair like pre-chicane Monza in the beginning of the 70's. If that is indeed the case than this has the potential to be something very unpredictable and special. 15. Sector posted: 08.28.2020 - 2:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is this in Europe or Africa? I know F1 requires three continents to be an official world championship. Europe and Russia are the two. 16. Corey posted: 08.28.2020 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @15 I think Russia is considered Europe but that's irrelevant as Bahrain and UAE are in Asia. The three continent requirement is being waived this year. 17. Z posted: 08.28.2020 - 2:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Russia's not a continent. It's part Asia, part Europe. 18. Jimmie4life posted: 08.28.2020 - 2:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It all depends on where in the country you are if it's in one continent or the other. Also, ask a question: Has there ever been an F1 race with 100 or more laps? 87 is a lot, even for F1, but has a single race ever in F1 history had triple digit or higher lap counts? 19. Canadianfan posted: 08.28.2020 - 3:05 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @18 Monaco had 100 laps until 1968. 20. Corey posted: 08.28.2020 - 3:14 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @18 aside from the Indianapolis 500, I don't think any race has been 100 laps or more. They are required to go around 305km which puts most race between 45-70 laps. Monaco goes 78 laps but they are only required a race distance of 260 km. 21. Corey posted: 08.28.2020 - 3:21 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @19 I stand corrected. 22. Canadianfan posted: 08.28.2020 - 4:32 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @20 You are right though that Monaco is a lot shorter than it should be, Monaco should actually be 92 laps based on the 305km rule of the other races however due to several factors if they did do that I doubt it would ever be run to completion. 23. Sector posted: 08.28.2020 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #17 My mind was thinking about the race being in Russia thus I wrote Russia instead of Asia. I meant Asia. 24. Canadianfan posted: 08.28.2020 - 5:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Something I put together over a year ago. F1 race length over the years. 1950-1953 300km minimum or 3 hours whichever came first. 1954-1957 500km or 3 hours whichever came first. 1958-1965 300km to 500km or 2 hours whichever came first. 1966-1970 300km to 400km or 2 hours whichever came first. 1971-1972 200mi (321.87km) now the maximum distance. 1973-1976 200mi (321.87km) or 2 hours whichever was shorter. 1977-1980 250km minimum 200mi (321.87km) or 2 hours the maximum. 1981-1983 250km minimum 320km or 2 hours the maximum. 1984?1987 Warmup Lap part of race distance. 300km minimum 320km or 2 hours maximum. 1988 Warmup Lap not part of race distance. 300km minimum 320km or 2 hours maximum. 1989-2011 305km or 2 hours whichever comes first. 2012-Present 305km or 2 hours whichever comes first. Maximum of four hours with red flags added. Monaco was always the exception. Usually the shortest race distance. 25. Corey posted: 08.28.2020 - 5:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @22 I took last years total race time and got something close to 2hrs and 2 mins for a 305 km event. Max race time for F1 is 2 hours. You're right in that they would hardly ever complete the standard distance there. 26. A replacement for the Korean Super Prix, it was initially intended to be a recurring event before only being held once. The race's lone running produced a memorable finish with a battle of future F1 World Champions as Lewis Hamilton bested Nico Rosberg by less than one second. The 31-car field was packed with talent. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
