The track was set up for A1GP proved to be one of the series' most popular rounds. Its success led to rumors of the track being used to revive the F1 South African Grand Prix but they never came to fruition. After A1GP moved its South African round to the permanent circuit at Kyalami this track was going to be used for a round of the FIA GT Championship but it ultimately did not come to pass due to issues related to South Africa's then upcoming hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. 2. The Durban officials kept all of the equipment to set it up so this one isn't as far out there as most rumors of bringing back past tracks. There are now rumors this circuit could be revived as part of a proposed new series called the African Cup of Nations which is run by an organization called AFRIX GP. The series would use many of the Ferrari-powered cars from A1GP's final season which the African organization bought secondhand. Only time will tell if the African Cup of Nations comes to fruition. Supposedly it wants to host races at Kyalami but most races would be held on street circuits. The Durban track is rumored along with rounds in Cape Town and Botswana but we've all seen many series like this that never got off the drawing board. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
