The track runs near the famous Singapore Flyer, a giant permanent ferris wheel that was until 2014 the largest in the world. Scene of the infamous Renault "crashgate" controversy during the 2008 inaugral race where the team had Nelson Piquet, Jr. crash on purpose to help teammate Fernando Alonso win. 3. The so called floating arena section of Turns 16, 17, 18, and 19 will be closed next year for construction of the NS Square to be completed by 2025. It contains a grandstand that since approximately 27,000 people. The current plan is the track from turn 14 to what is now turn 20 will be an additional long straight and will reduce the circuit's current corners from 23 to 18. 5.
