The first Indonesian track on racing-reference...

This track is scheduled to be renovated and start hosting MotoGP races
in 2017, a welcome decision given how the track appeared to be
threatened by other developments in the area.

Sentul was built in 1990 and opened in 1993 with the goal of hosting a
Formula 1 race. That never came to pass but it was used as the test
track for the Indonesian version of "Top Gear."

The idea of an F1 race here gained a boost in the mid-2010s when Rio
Haryanto became Formula 1's first Indonesian competitor in 2016,
boosting the domestic popularity of the sport. F1 Management supposedly
looked at Sentul as a possible future race site but nothing from it
(wonder how much Haryanto's ultimately brief driving tenure played into
that). The previously mentioned push to bring MotoGP to this track in
2017 also fell apart with the Indonesian Motorcycle Grand Prix
eventually being approved to return in 2021 at a new track being built
in Lombok instead.
