When constructed in 1996 it was hoped this would be the first Chinese track to host a Formula 1 race but while it had a provisional date on the series' calandar in 1999 it was cancelled due to logistics issues and the newer Shanghai International Circuit eventually landed the Chinese Grand Prix. The track hosted major endurance races in both 2010 and 2011 but they were replaced with a 6-hour race in Shanghai for the 2012 World Endurance Championship season. Prior to the construction of the track Zhuhai hosted events on a street course in 1993, 1994 and 1995. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
