The Rexall Edmonton Indy is a round of the IndyCar Series held at a
temporary circuit set up at the Edmonton City Centre Airport near the
downtown area of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It was formerly called the
Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton and was a round of the Champ Car World
Series. It was one of three Champ Car races added to the 2008 IndyCar
Series following the merger of the two American open wheel racing series.

In its inaugural year (2005), Edmonton set the attendance record for a
Champ Car event in Canada at 200,052.

This airport was in operation from 1927 through 2013, it closed in
November 2013 a year after the last IndyCar race was run here. The
phased process of closing the airport began in 2009. A large majority of
the land is being redeveloped for residential use with the neighboring
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology taking over the rest.

The entire layout of this track, and the portion of the airport it used,
was switched completely for the 2011 and 2012 races to take advantage of
portions of the airport being closed off.

WEBMASTER:

The track CASCAR ran in 1998 - 2000 was not this Airport, it was what is
now known as Castrol Raceway (Formerly Labatt's raceway).

Castrol Raceway is a multi-purpose facility with a 1.9 mile road course,
a half mile dirt oval and a Drag Strip.

WEBMASTER, The Great Dave is correct. The '98-00 events were held at
what is now known as Castrol Raceway, which is a small road course
that's incorporated to that facility's drag strip.
