Originally known as the Molson Indy Toronto, it was a Champ Car World Series race held annually from 1986 to 2007. The track has 11 turns, is a 1.755-mile (2.824 km) street circuit, and is located at Exhibition Place. The Toronto Indy is one of six Canadian circuits to hold an Indy/Champ Car race, the others being Mont-Tremblant, Sanair, Montreal, Vancouver, and Edmonton. 2. The MLS stadium was built on the site of Exhibition Stadium (demolished in 1999) which once hosted a Cup race. 4. Was moved to June from July in 2015 due to the Commonwealth Games, and was held as a single event. It'll return to July in 2016, but it looks like it'll stay as one race. 5. The decision could impact IndyCar's ability to hold the Honda Indy Toronto over July 10-12, due to the month-plus setup period required to assemble the street course held around Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto. Asked for a comment on the new mandate, Green Savoree Race Promotions confirmed discussions have been held with a variety of officials and parties involved in the event, but no direction was given as to whether an exemption could be granted to keep the race's original date on the calendar. ?Conversations have been ongoing with Exhibition Place, City of Toronto, Honda Canada and IndyCar with the intention to hold the event on the originally scheduled date as planned,? GSRP said in a statement. ?The event is subject to the guidance and mandates of federal, provincial and municipal authorities regarding public gatherings and travel. The health and safety of all associated with the Honda Indy Toronto will remain the priority.? In order for the Honda Indy Toronto to be held, construction would need to start at the beginning of June. At present, IndyCar's lone visit to Canada is set to serve as the sixth event on the revised 2020 schedule. 7. It might still happen 9. Canadianfan posted: 04.14.2021 - 1:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From Jenna Fryer: Mark Miles says the series still hopes to race in Toronto this season. If it needs to be replaced, it would be for one year only and would be a doubleheader at an already scheduled weekend. (I would bet on Mid-Ohio.) 10. In 2019, when first approached, the city said it was interested but made it clear that it didn't want to invest the money necessary. Formula E, however, will not take no for an answer and is back, taking another shot. Can Formula E convince Toronto to get into the electric car game? Possibly ? but what about the Honda Indy? The Indy pays Toronto. Toronto would have to pay Formula E. But F-E is the series of the future. We should all be curious about which way the city might go on this one. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
