It was the area's undisputed premier short track for about 20 years until the Mosport Speedway opened in 1989 but regained that status following Mosport's mid-2013 closure and demolition. 2. RaceFanX posted: 01.31.2021 - 2:11 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Famous automotive stuntman Ken "The Mad Canadian" Carter lost his life here in 1983 when he crashed trying to jump a rocket-powered Pontiac Firebird over the pond located right behind the track. Carter tried the same stunt in 1982 and came up short, crashing into the pond, so in 1983 he had his car powered up only to overshoot his landing point and crash upside down.
