It's named in honor of Enzo Ferrari and his son Dino and is located a short distance from Ferrari's home city of Maranello. In 1994, Roland Ratzenburger and Ayrton Senna were both killed here within two days of each other. In addition, Rubens Barrichello had a hard crash during practice that almost killed him. Formula One left after the 2006 race after years of complaints from fans and drivers and hasn't been back since because it no longer meets the FIA's standards. 2. It was then massively overrated and produced extremely dull races, except for 2005. 5. It's narrow, fast, and ringed with unforgiving walls and trees...At some point in history every corner here has claimed the ego of a big name. And some corners have claimed even more than that..." - Jeremy Clarkson 8. It says this is a "dream". It's a possibility - but no more than that - for a race in the Euro-centric 2020 F1 season 9. RaceFanX posted: 06.12.2020 - 4:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There are rumors of more races in Italy this year. Ferrari-owned Mugello cancelled its MotoGP race amidst rumors they may land a surprise Formula 1 date. 10. AlphaTauri carried out a filming day at Imola on Wednesday, with Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly each spending time behind the wheel of both a 2018 STR13 and this season's car. With Monza already confirmed on the initial eight-race F1 calendar and Mugello lined up as a potential addition, the president of Formula Imola, Uberto Selvatico Estense, wants Imola included in a special run of races in Italy. 11. The possible dates would be October 4th or 11th. 12. Canadianfan posted: 07.24.2020 - 1:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's back. It will only be a two rather than three day event this is because the track has certain quiet days due to local noise restrictions and they only had two of those left Oct 31st-Nov 1st on the tracks calendar. It will be called the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix and not the San Marino Grand Prix. This is because Imola is actually in the region of Emilia-Romagna not San Marino which is about 100 km away from Imola. This is because in 1980, the Italian Grand Prix moved from the high-speed Monza circuit to Imola (later known as Autodromo Dino Ferrari), as a direct result of 1978's startline pile-up, which claimed the life of the popular Swedish driver Ronnie Peterson. It was won by Nelson Piquet for Brabham-Ford. The following year, the Italian Grand Prix returned to Monza. This left the owners of the Imola circuit without a Grand Prix. They were eager to remain on the calendar, however, and with an Italian Grand Prix already on the calendar, they asked the Automobile Club of San Marino, the motorsport authority of the nearby Republic of San Marino, to apply for their own Grand Prix. Their application was successful and the San Marino Grand Prix was born. 13. joey2448 posted: 07.27.2020 - 7:27 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Imola returns to the F1 calendar after 14 years away and will host its 28th Grand Prix race. It will be the third race in Italy in one season for F1, which I assume is the first time ever that's happened (someone else look it up for me?) Has there ever been three F1 championship races in one country in a single season? 14. RaceFanX posted: 07.27.2020 - 9:23 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 Yes, oddly by the United States where Formula 1 isn't the biggest series. The USA hosted Grand Prix races on street courses in Detroit, Long Beach, and Las Vegas (the Caesar's Palace parking lot track) in 1982. 15. Corey posted: 07.27.2020 - 10:58 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The US even has the record for hosting F1 races in the greatest number of locations at 10. Technically 11 different circuits as Indy has played host with two of them circuits. 16. Onion posted: 07.27.2020 - 12:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) If Indy counts as 2 different circuits, then so should Long Beach and Phoenix. Long Beach especially, as it had just 2 corners in common between the first and last incarnation. 17. Corey posted: 07.27.2020 - 2:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Indy still has/had two distinct circuits. One being the oval and the other being the road course. Long Beach and Phoenix are really just a re-configuration of the same circuit. Keep in mind The 1950-1960 Indy 500's were part of the F1 calendar. 18. possum posted: 07.27.2020 - 7:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @17 - I agree with you - the Indy oval and road courses are very different in concept; the various iterations of Long Beach are all variations on the same concept. @7 - LOL at Clarkson. If he's that melodramatic about Imola I'd hate to hear his description of the Isle of Man TT course. 19. ShiftIntoTopGear posted: 09.30.2020 - 5:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "Top Gear" actually returned to film a later episode here. Then-host Matt LeBlanc and the Stig used the track to put the Ferrari 812 Superfast through its paces. @18 "Top Gear" actually did film on the Isle of Man TT course one, using just one of its countryside sections in a comparison test of European sports cars. They surprisingly weren't all that melodramatic when they did. 20. Canadianfan posted: 12.29.2020 - 12:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From Fritz-Dieter Rencken: Imola is frontrunner to fill vacant slot on 2021 F1 calendar.
