This hilly road course was built in 2008 and has hosted a wide variety
of open wheel and sportscar series since. F1 teams have tested here and
there have been rumors of this course being used to revive the
Portuguese Grand Prix but they have yet to come to pass.

The first episode of the Amazon Prime series "The Grand Tour" was filmed
in part here. The episode in question saw the track used for a much
anticipated "Holy Trinity" comparison test showdown between the Ferrari
LaFerrari, the Porsche 918, and McLaren P1.

Portugal's epic Autodromo Internacional Algarve has been awarded Grade 1
status by the FIA, according to the circuit owner. Means it can host #F1
races now. Hosted tests for teams in 2008 & 2009.

The Algarve circuit in Portugal has revealed it is in "strong
negotiations" with Formula 1 over holding races this year on a revised
calendar as replacement for cancelled flyaway events.

The revived Portuguese Grand Prix this weekend (Oct. 25) is most likely
a one-time event, needed just for 2020 as a replacement race amid the
coronavirus pandemic. Still, it's pretty cool to see F1 cars racing
around this circuit.

Way more interesting than Estoril. Lots of elevation changes and I'm
actually shocked they didn't take the layout with the first chicane like
they use in Bahrain.

There wasn't a surprise winner but the F1 race here was historic. Lewis
Hamilton's win here in 2020 was his 92nd Formula 1 victory, pushing him
past Michael Schumacher's total to make him the all-time winningest
driver in the global series' history.

Official: F1 confirms Portimao will be round three of the 2021 season,
taking place on 2 May.

From Motorsport:

Portimao's eight-hour fixture (WEC) will now take place over the
original Le Mans weekend of June 12/13.
