This track was built in 1972 and mostly hosted domestic races and
Formula 2 events until it was selected to host a revival of the
Portuguese Grand Prix in 1984. The track would be on the F1 schedule for
just over a decade and proved to be a popular one. Since its Formula 1
days ended it has hosted a variety of series including DTM, FIA GT
Championship, and the now defunct A1GP and Superleague Formula.
