It's primary role was to host the annual Yugoslav motorcycle Grand Prix and replace the former Opatija, Croatia street circuit in that capacity. The MotoGP race would be held here annually through 1990. In June 1991 Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia as the latter country broke up with this track becoming part of Croatia at the conclusion of the four-year Croatian War of Independence. In 2020 Automotodrom Grobnik unexpectedly made its NASCAR Whelen Euro Series debut when the Covid-19 pandemic resulted in the cancelation of planned races at Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic. The track was announced as a late mid-season replacement in October and just three weeks later hosted the series' first-ever visit to Croatia. In recent years the track has also seen FIM Sidecar World Championship races. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
