The area was used for parking military vehicles during World War II, and bombed as such, but eventually evolved into Britain's first post-war motor racing venue when the full track was constructed, paved, and opened for competition 1950. The track went on to host 12 runnings of the British Grand Prix from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s and numerous "Race of Champions" non-points events. 4. The race was intended to be a big bucks, "run what you brung" battle with a 100-car entry list but none of that really panned out due to the timing in the middle of many active championship seasons. Only 58 cars entered, with most being F2 or F5000 teams, with the day's big race turning into a walkover as Emerson Fittipaldi and the Lotus F1 team took a break from their championship season to crush all comers, humiliating Rothmans as they won the race in a car sponsored by rival John Player Special. There were only a few F1 cars in the race but they swept the podium. Fittipaldi and Lotus decided to enter the race after they figured out none of the other top F1 teams of the day would be, expecting an easy win as such and getting it. 5. Despite Brands' dramatic British Grand Prix that year though it doesn't "play itself." Instead Brands doubles for the 1976 era Circuit Paul Ricard (which looks nothing today like it did back then), the Nurburgring, Monza and Ferrari's Fiorano test track. Almost all the racing scenes in "Rush" were filmed in the UK although some other scenes were filmed at the real Nurburgring. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
