Home of the Spanish Grand Prix since 1991. The track has gone through
numerous configurations, the latest having been implemented in time for
the 2006 race. The current configuration eliminated the high speeds on
the pit straight.

This track was built in 1991 specifically to host Formula 1's Spanish
Grand Prix. Its construction tied in with that of facilities for
Barcelona's 1992 Summer Olympics and the track was incorporated into the
festivities as the start and finish line for a team road cycling event.

This track, in several layouts, is raceable in the several of the Forza
Motorsports video games.

Saw a fatality yesterday when Moto2's Luis Salom fell at turn 12.
Motorcycles don't usually use the chicane there. Thoughts go out to his
family and friends.

21/28 F1 races run at this track have been won by the polesitter

From Tobi Grüner:

F1 officials worried about safety at Spanish Grand Prix due to rising
Corona infections in the Catalonia region. There's already a plan B in
place in case of cancellation. Silverstone would then hold a 3rd race on
Aug. 16.

From BBC:

Travellers returning to England from Spain will have to quarantine for
14 days from Sunday morning.

(This is not good for the Spanish Grand Prix and I imagine it will
probably be cancelled and we will run at Silverstone 3 weeks in a row.
Unfortunately it's not possible to run any other Silverstone layout
neither shorter layout is long enough for FIA rules. Also it's not
feasible from a safety point to run the track backwards because of lack
of runoff in certain corners or to bring back the old Bridge layout
again for safety reasons.)

Formula 1 and MotoGP venue Catalunya will reinstate a modified layout of
the old Turn 10 following safety improvements made in conjunction with
the FIA and FIM.

(2003 was the last time La Caxia was used in its original configuration.
I was hoping they would also get rid of the chicane at Europcar but
doesn't look like it.)

Yes John it needed more runoff to be safe for F1 and MotoGP. Especially
MotoGP. It will be a much faster corner now. Unfortunately it probably
won't improve overtaking it will just give the track a little better flow.

The contract to secure the celebration of the Spanish GP 2021 at the
@Circuitcat_eng has been already signed. One year agreement.

(They are also working on a long-term deal.)

Article excerpt about Miami race.

Domenicali confirmed that the 2022 F1 calendar will list 23 races as per
this year, pointing to an existing round dropping out. The smart money
is on Barcelona as its current deal is for this year only, but in the
longer-term whichever event does drop off could well return should F1
adopt rotational calendars. Thus, it could be Spain in 2022 and Spa in
2023, or whatever.

With Fernando Alonso back in F1 you would think they might want to
strike the Spanish market while there's some popularity.
