It is widely known if this tight and tricky layout were proposed today it would not be approved for F1 racing. 2. martin-n-rusty posted: 12.07.2010 - 2:29 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) If someone put that kind of track in front of F1 for acceptance today, they would be laughed at out of the room. Monaco. F1's Daytona 500. F1's Indy 500. 3. RaceFanX posted: 05.09.2015 - 12:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) First track in Europe to host a points paying Formula E event. The Formula E electric cars ran a shortened version of the course that left off the hairpin and the tunnel. 4. The actual town is Monaco, Monaco, however you want to break that down. Monte Carlo is probably better though because that is how it is identified in broadcasts and media reports. 6. The track takes six weeks to set up and three to dismantle. The first Monaco Grand Prix was held in 1929. 7. chevyfan98 posted: 10.09.2016 - 10:18 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The entire country of Monaco has a land border of 2.7 miles. This track is 2.074 miles long. 8. Anthony posted: 11.23.2016 - 10:12 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Monaco is a horrible track and a massive anachronism in the motorsport world. If it wasn't for the fact it has been around since the start of F1, it would have disappeared from the calendar decades ago. I am convinced that this track is one massive crash away from being consigned to the history books. 9. Wow, TCR. 10. RaceFanX posted: 12.05.2016 - 2:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wow, I thought Monaco was an unusual choice for lower level touring cars and I guess that explains how it happened. How dishonest can you be to lie about your schedule. 11. Seibaru posted: 12.05.2016 - 3:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Monaco does see one full body car race, that being Porsche Supercup. I also recall a BMW one make series stopping by Monaco many years ago (we're talking the eighties). In 2015, TCR was touted as the replacement for WTCC (which has really fallen off the last couple years), but now that WTCC is starting to un-suck (I mean, this year's schedule for WTCC has Macau, which is back on the WTCC calendar after being part of TCR for two years, AND the Nordschleife, which will hold a WTCC round for the fourth time), plus the whole Bas Schouten debacle for TCR, I think they're probably panicking. 12. Seibaru posted: 12.05.2016 - 3:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @11 Third time, actually It's like luring customers with a big sale and then saying you lied about the aforementioned sale altogether. There's the standard tactic of briefly raising prices and, a little while later, lowering them then calling it a sale (which is pushing it), and then there's downright deception. Pitiful. Also Bas Schouten happened in a national TCR series, not the International. So...my bad again. 13. Seibaru posted: 12.05.2016 - 4:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Triple post, but if I'm gonna mention an incident, I may as well explain it. Bas Schouten was an ADAC TCR Germany driver who was involved in a start crash at Zandvoort. His car, which had collapsed its suspension, was towed to pit out (likely destroying the undertray), and the officials told the team to get a flatbed. Bas, out of spite that his car had been towed despite his protests that he could continue (...no, the wheel was bent, you're done), told his team to put the car on a jack and leave it at pit out, which they did. The officials banned him from the series for at least the rest of the year (justified, the tow can do some damage, but it's standard practice), but for some really stupid reason, instead of removing the car from the jacks and forcibly impounding it, they red flagged the race, ended it after not even one green flag lap, gave half points, and told teams to get ready for race two of the doubleheader. Wow. 14. RaceFanX posted: 12.05.2016 - 5:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The BMW series was the famous M1 Procar Championship that ran as an F1 undercard in 1979 and 1980, it competed at Monaco during both years of its existence. The series featured a fleet of matching race-prepped BMW M1s and each race that was a combination event with Formula 1 allowed the top-5 qualifying F1 racers that week to join the fun in specially pre-prepared M1s. It was a very cool series. 15. The Great Dave posted: 12.05.2016 - 6:07 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Are you sure the WTCC is gonna un-suck? I've had the pleasure of getting up close and seeing one run in person and it was brilliant. And regarding that TCR incident, was the immobile car blockingpit exit? If it was, I'm not surprised to see a red flag as there will be regulations regarding access of medical cars to the track. If it wasn't blocking pit exit, then that is strange indeed. 20. Seibaru posted: 12.06.2016 - 7:19 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @19 I unfortunately lack a decent linkable picture, but the car was to the far left of Zandvoort's (very wide) pit lane. As for the way the car was facing, it was at about 4:00, and he was just past the actual 'end' of the pit area (aka where the wall ends). A medical car could probably get by, methinks. 21. I compiled a full season table and there were 36 drivers in 1979, with a maximum of 21 cars present at a race and a maximum of 20 starting. 25. The cars each cost about $1,000,000 new so most of the owners who took part when out and hired top-caliber professionals to race for them.
