RaceFanX posted: 03.12.2020 - 1:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) In addition to F1 this track also hosted the famous 12 Hours of Reims, the first race was held in 1926 with later incarnations in 1953-1954, 1956-1958, 1964-1965, and 1967. The race was noted for its unique timing. The event began with a Le Mans start at midnight with the drivers then racing through the night and into morning for a finish at noon. Jo Schlepper and Guy Ligier won what was ultimately the final running of the race in 1967 driving a Ford GT40. The race was to return in 1968 but was cancelled amid the strikes and massive protests France saw throughout May of that year.
