The track's configurations include a Pocono-like 3-turn 3.2 km / 2 mile oval, a 14-turn 4.3 km / 2.7 mi road course and a similar 13-turn motorcycle road course layout. The oval was the site of CART's first-ever race in Europe in 2001 but it was overshadowed by popular racer Alex Zanardi's tragic accident while leading that cost him both his legs, today the oval configuration is rarely used. The track, or rather the area above it, also hosted what turned out to the final event of the Red Bull Air Race series in 2010. A Series 15 episode of the British television show 'Top Gear' used this track, specifically a layout using the oval and the infield portion, as part of an adventure the hosts undertook in Germany to find a cheap used car great for everyday use and track days. Their cars were lapped around the track by 'The Stig's German Cousin,' who had a nice mullet, before the presenters were to record laps and post the footage to YouTube to see who could get the most hits. 2. This place never lived down the Zanardi wreck and the crash that claimed Michele Alboreto's life while he was testing the Audi R8 LMP here. This would be an incredible setup for a test track with all the different layouts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
