Because Monza is already hosting the Italian GP the previous weekend, Mugello will be host to the "Tuscan GP", as the track sits in the Tuscany region of Italy. 2. Given its ownership, unsurprisingly its been used as a venue for Formula 1 testing from time to time and drivers liked it when they got the chance to run here. The track has also been featured in several racing video games, such as the Forza Motorsport series. Racing began in this area with a street course 1920 and it continued as such through 1970, morphing into a large Targa Florio-like event in its later years with laps more than 65 kilometers in length. After a car crashed into the crowd during a race in 1970, killing a child, the street circuit was discontinued. This proper race track was built in 1973 and opened in 1974 to replace it. Through the years it has hosted a variety of series including MotoGP, DTM, DTM's brief global foray the International Touring Car Championship, the original Formula 2, its successor Formula 3000, and the World Sportscar Championship. The 2020 MotoGP race here was cancelled when the chance to host a F1 race sprang up. 3.
