Best British oval. Actually race here, it has an infield circuit better
than all of US ones combined.

Now has a full oval that only the British Pickups use.

Track was built in a disused quarry and shows it, a different oval to
the usual ones but was used for CART/BTCC/etc

Featured in several videogames too, Race Pro Race Driver/ToCA Race
Driver/V8 Supercars Race Driver, as a track along with a late model
ASCAR-esque car.

Track is something of a white elephant for the British race fans given
how much it cost to build and ththe fact it was mostly built for CART to
secure a CART race.

However it has a great infield roac ourse, hosts track days too and was
useed for episodes of Top Gear UK

Track was sold in November and held its last race prior to changing
owners. It's set to be used as a hub for the British auto industry.

The oval lap record is held by Tony Kanaan at 215 mph. The track has, or
had, 16 layouts.

@4: There's still a tiny, tiny bit of hope for racing to return given
the track, as of writing this, hasn't been torn down t all.

Interestingly, the track was, and is, the site of a weekly auction, and
was the site of several science fairs.

Also, I find it somewhat ironic that the Rockingham in the UK is
closing, while its US namesake is still around.

Also of note, as noted in my earlier comment, the track lives on in
various videogames in both an official and unofficil capacity. Also of
note. Patrick Carpentier became the first Canadian ever to hold a lap
record at an English circuit in 2001.

That being said, TK holds the outright oval lap record, shattering
Carpentier's mark in 2002. After that, national level series and bikes
ran there, mostly the BTCC and BGT. There was hope of a 2003 CCWS date
to go along with the Lausitz date, however Brands Hatch was picked
instead. There was a consensus in the UK media that Brands was the
better choice, after the event though certain writers still argued CCWS
should have gone back to Rockingam.

Rockingham Motor Speedway was the first banked oval race track in
Britain since World War II led to the closure of Brooklands in 1939.
