After the war the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) started holding races here, first using its runways then switching to the roads running around the perimeter of the airfield with this route forming the basis of the course that remained largely unchanged through the mid-1970s. When it was an airfield Silverstone had three runways in the RAF's usual triangle formation, a large part of one of them remains on the property today with some of the track's facilities built atop it. Another forms a straightaway for the track's shorter national layout. 5. kup posted: 12.02.2017 - 7:28 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Formula One Silverstone Circuit 1950-2017 # races: 52 UPS: universal points system. In 1978 Tom Sneva won zero races, but the title of the champion. Long-term more important is not wins, but more Distance and less Aver.Finish. The whole picture is always more important than some bright moments. Off-topic: by UPS Alain Prost could win 6 titles: 83, 85, 86, 88, 89, 93. Schumacher 7: 95, 97, 98, 01, 02, 03, 04. Piquet 2: 87, 90. Behra 1: 56. McLaren 1: 60. Ginther 1: 64. Laffite 1: 78. - sorry Mario. Reutemann 1: 81. Damon Hill 1: 94. Villeneuve 1: 96. Irvine 1: 99. Hakkinen 1: 00. Compare to the whole F1 history, UPS is more of a driver and less of a car/team. 8.
