Today the property and its former airport facilities are used to host a variety of events. A race track will be set up for the first time to host a round of the Formula E electric car championship. DTM is also in discussion about having a race here in the future. 2. Templehof's massive terminal complex was build during the time when the Nazis controlled German. Later it served as the main base for American, British, Canadian, Australian, Kiwi, and South African air crews operating missions during the Berlin Airlift in 1948. The terminal building included a massive canopy for planes to park under as it was built before the advent of jets and their accompanying enclosed jetways. The Formula E track included a section that ran under the canopy. 3. bduddy posted: 05.27.2015 - 12:56 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Tempelhof's massive runways with almost no taxiways mean that a Burke-style course would have been impractical, so the winding course around the gate area makes sense. 4. The race is still on the schedule, just not at the airport. 5. Tylor Thaber posted: 12.10.2015 - 3:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Never mind. It appears Berlin has been called off completely. 6. The proposal, which could number as many as six races, would likely take place over consecutive weekends in August and are in a detailed stage of planning to be run behind closed doors. The plans include the possibility of back-to-back double-header races and the provision for a potential mid-week race which could run as an evening event. A variety of options for race formats, timings, and circuit configurations would be available to Formula E for hosting events. At Tempelhof, the large expanse of concrete at the former airfield enables a variety of circuit configurations and plans have already been looked at whereby one race event could differ from another. 10.
